An assessment was conducted to improve last-mile delivery of FA, IFA, and Calcium supplements in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, India. This rapid assessment aimed to identify gaps in implementing the Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) program recommendations.

Methodology

  • Two intervention blocks from each state were selected.
  • In each block, one PHC and two sub-centres were chosen for interviews.
  • Interviews were conducted with health officials at various levels (district, block, PHC, sub-centre) and frontline workers (ASHAs).
  • Assessment tools were based on AMB recommendations, LSAT, and LIAT frameworks.

Outcomes

The assessment informed the development of a capacity-building package for health system staff and a low-cost digital intervention called ANIKA. ANIKA is a WhatsApp-based chatbot designed to address information needs of beneficiaries and supply chain management tool for the frontline health workers.

Conclusion

Rapid assessment was a valuable tool in identifying bottlenecks in supply chain of government health programs like Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB). By addressing these bottlenecks, programs can improve last-mile delivery and achieve their goals.
