Race For Plastic State of Uttar Pradesh

About Project

India's commitment to environmental sustainability is evident through initiatives like Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and efforts by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, and the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of Uttar Pradesh. In line with this, discussions have arisen regarding the urgent need to address plastic waste management challenges, culminating in the organization of the plastic waste conclave scheduled for July 3rd in Lucknow. This event aims to catalyze actions to combat plastic pollution and promote circular economy principles, reflecting India's transition towards a greener and more sustainable future.

RACE Campaign Monitoring:

During the RACE Campaign, a dedicated portal (https://race4plasticfreeup.in/) was launched to monitor the various activities organized as part of the campaign. This platform facilitated online pledges of support for the campaign and allowed representatives from urban local bodies (ULBs) to upload photos showcasing different activities held across cities like Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Mirzapur. The portal served as a central hub for tracking progress and engagement throughout the 5-day thematic RACE Campaign Calendar.

The RACE Campaign portal reported significant engagement metrics, including:

  • Total plastic waste collected: 510 tonnes
  • Trees planted in Lucknow to offset carbon emissions generated during the UP Plastic Waste Management Conclave 2022: 26,200, offsetting 39.29 tCO2e
  • Total number of people who pledged their support: 1,22,573
  • Total citizen participation: 4,22,905

Portal Development for the RACE for Plastic Campaign:

Inspired by the success of the RACE Campaign portal, the development of a similar platform for the RACE for Plastic Campaign emerges as a crucial step in fostering engagement and monitoring progress towards plastic waste management goals. Building upon the framework established by the previous portal, the new platform will provide enhanced features for showcasing municipal initiatives, facilitating citizen participation, and reinforcing the message of environmental stewardship. Through the portal, stakeholders will continue to collaborate in the collective effort to combat plastic pollution and promote sustainable practices across Uttar Pradesh.
